I'm trying a new gambit against the Caro Kann

Today I came across this interesting opening gambit against the Caro Kann. I believe it's known as the "Rasa Studier Gambit". White gives up the f-pawn for a lead in development and open lines. I play the King's Gambit, which also jettisons the f pawn, so the position resulting from this Rasa-Studier seems quite familiar to me.

No doubt this is a terrible opening, and the pros would crush it, but at the lowly amateur level where I exist, it looks promising. I like the aggressive game that White gets, and it seems to me that many beginner/intermediate Caro Kann players won't be prepared for fireworks in the opening, so maybe they'll be feeling uncomfortable. I always like it when that happens.
Here's a game I played earlier today. Just a 5-minute blitz game, with plenty of mistakes from both sides, but an amusing final position. Other than a handful of pawns, all of Black's pieces are still on their starting squares. happy

Anyone out there who actively plays this gambit against the Caro Kann? Any books or resources that people would recommend to learn more about it?

This is where a chess database and a good game collection would be very useful. In your starting position, after 5...Nf6, you have a Blackmar-Diemer Gambit: Ziegler Defence.

Yeah, this is just a Blackmar-Diemer, and most BDG afficionados want to avoid 4.f3 e5!? and so will start with 4.Bc4 Nf6 and now 5.f3. I have hundreds of games in this line.

Interesting. Thanks for that. It's funny how chess positions are named. Or how the same position can be reached from different starting moves. Check out the screenshot below from chess.com's openings section.

I sometimes play against the Blackmar-Diemer as Black, but I've never tried it on the White side because I only ever play 1. e4. But I'll look into it now. And GYG, I will for sure check out your games with these moves. Thanks again.

A very simple solution for Black is 4.f3 Nf6 4.fxe4 e5, which resembles a lot the Fantasy variation, but with a knight prematurtely posted at c3.

I had a Chess friend who use to play this line.

I have never played this line from White side so I can’t help you from that stand point.

However, I can tell you how Black will destroy you. Lol

I use to play this position as Black against my Friend.

It was a very satisfying win.

Black Killer move is g6

Jovanka Houska gives 5...Bf5 as being very good for Black. There are many you tube videos on the Rasa Studier but none of them consider this line. At least none that I have seen.

Lol. Black can take the pawn and since white will castle kingside, black does the same, pins the f3 knight, plays e6, puts their bishop on e7 for any white sacrifices on their f6 knight, other knight on d7 and they're just a pawn up for no real compensation. I've faced it even over the board and had a very easy game. The game you showed black played terribly, moved the knight many times, didn't castle AND played f6. With just simple moves black is better. Don't try to win against classical tested openings with gambits.
