Is Pirc defence a weak choice when playing black?

Depends...

Depends on the ability of both players.

Depends on the knowledge of the opening by both players.

Who is Igor Usmachev? Could you post a link to his book, please?

I guess he means Anatoli Ufimtsev...

He was the first who really analyzed this defence, who can be called Pirc-Ufimtsev...

About the book, I don't know but "The modern Pirc" by a player who analyzed it in 50's... Lol

If your are a defence player yes pirc is good. But if you have problems defending with oposite castles then dont.

If your are a tactical player dont.

If you dont like the positions in the middle games in this opening dont.

If you dont have fun with this dont

I played Pirc before with good success but as i am a atacking player i dont play it now. But when i di i prefered the c6 b5 system.

As white i fuse the dynamic bishop variation with the astrian and win oftenly without problems. One of my last games is typical for this with the exeption that i oversaw the bishop move and my openent played a very bad system in it.

At your level, openings don't matter. They only matter at 2200+.

Pirc is good. Maybe not the best, but it's used at top level.

The only thing I like about the pirc is the fianchetto and that's why I play it.

Pirc at low level is almost always bad played. Defences like this where u concede centre and give opponents all freedom needs some skills and knowledge.

Thats why thats a poor choice at low level and almost nobody should recommend this.

I had a friend that was my coach for awhile, and he tried to get me to play the Modern.  I wanted nothing to do with it, as i didn't like any of the positions i would have gotten.

But Pirc is not for defence, its for counterattack.

When u are in defence mode, it is usually too late...

Sure we can bet opponent will miss his/her attack, but I think chess is not a gamble game.

Not a bad choice

https://www.chess.com/awards/a-mateur/books Is this section new? Though I played the Pirc plural times here on chess.com, I received an 'award' after playing it in a non-rated game.

New.

This is 4 pirc

It used to be thought of as inferior.

Generally when an opening is hyper modern, it means that just playing moves that fit with classical principle won't work. You have to study some theory.

For me personally I've never minded playing the pirc. Generally I can hope for a win, and at any time gladly take a draw.
