Is sicilian defence playable for beginners?

Over the years (decades?), I've heard that unless you are highly rated, you shouldn't play this or that opening. The reason given is that they are too complicated and low-rated players don't know the nuances of the opening.

The reality is that even though I don't know all of the nuances, neither do my opponents, so it doesn't make any difference which opening I play. The same can be said for beginners. Play whichever opening appeals to you (it will probably be the one where you win most of your games) As you improve, you may abandon some openings because you're not having any success with them. but that's part of the learning process.
