Is the Brooklyn Variation of the Alekhine Justified?

In an average game it might be possible but 2... Nd5 is certainly better. Carlsen played the Brooklyn and won, so that's awesome, but if you're going to play Alkehine Defense seriously then just play Nd5. If you want to intimidate your opponent then maybe play Ng8

The idea is to free the d-pawn and put the Knight on a more harmonious square than b6.

Another point of the opening is to not allow White to get tempos on your knight. 2... Nd5 3. C4.

White gains time anyway, but the idea here is that you can put your Knight on a better square and play ... d6 or ... d5 faster.

B6 can potentially be a good square if White does the 4 pawns attack versus the Alekhine
