Is the kings gambit good?

I need some help if I should use the kings gambit or the queens gambit? Are any of these gambits good?

It's more about your style than if they are "good". Research them and see which you like, or if something else suits you better.

thanx a lot Richard Hayden!!

The Kings Gambit is my favourite Opening. I use it all the time and I think it is fully playable.

Note: DO NOT take any of the pawns if the opponent plays the Falkbeer Counter Gambit.

I used to play the king's Gambit, gave it up when I gave up 1. e4 but I had some good times with it.

It's all about style and how much opening theory you want to learn.

The King's Gambit is more dangerous than the Queen's Gambit for the simple reason that you are opening up your kingside to attack. That concern is irrelevant for the Queen's Gambit because the Queen is the most powerful unit in the game and can take care of herself. As some have said, the KG leads to very tactical (and often funny) games. Play it if that's what you're into it.....if you want to get something more serene out of your chess game, I would recommend being a little more positional than the KG.

The King's gambit in the right hands is very strong. Maybe you should checkout Etienne's blog

King s gambit is very theoretical and not played at higher level.u don t see king s gambit at supertournaments.Playing king s gambit with experienced players..and they will make u pay for that.Queens gambit is very often used now. Both gambits have same purposes, material sacrifice for quick development.Play king s gambit for fun and queen s gambit when things are serious.that s my advice.

I think the main reason why King's gambit isn't played much in high level chess anymore is that players prefer "calm" and more predictable openings with.

So basically Queen's gambit leads to solid, more positional and calmer play, while King's gambit leads to very playable, more tactical and sharper play with more risks on both sides.

I personally play both.

I like the Queen's gambit. I think the kings gambit is risky. Maybe if you want to play the King's gambit maybe prepare for all kinds of replies.

if you play it, you have to very careful because your king is exposed

I liked what Kenneth Ray Smith (the Texas FM after whom the Smith-Morra Gambit is named) said about gambits in general:

"Now is the time the boys will be separated from the men. It is the biggest decision you must be willing to make in your chess career. YOU MUST ADD GAMBITS TO YOUR OPENING SYSTEM (Note: I said ADD - NOT GIVE UP your basic system). You must play them, win with them, and lose with them. There is no substitute. Being a pawn down, you will have to dig into each position on each move. You will learn to use that extra space and tempo. You will develop that "killer instinct" and learn to handle open positions-being ready when that closed position will surely become open. Those than cannot stand to lose games and rating points because they are converting to gambit play ARE HOPELESS in my book. Do not cry with them when they are on "that chess hill they can't climb", and do not feel sorry when they start slipping backward. For with stubbornness and cowardice, they did not play gambits and dug their own chess graves!"

it's worth the risk and that's why u have to fight back from the beginning in the KG,let the opponent worry about his own kings' safety

even though I play the KbG as backup for the Bird I quite like the wild games that arise after it.

There are a bunch of variations and ways to play the King's gambit. One of my favorites is the bishop's gambit, but if you want to be even more risky and aggressive, the double muzio gambit is very interesting

What is the point in digging out a 16 year old topic and responding to a guy who hasn't been here since 2008?

Refrigerator321

Because I wanted to respond to one of the oldest forum topics because I'm bored

pleewo

you might want to try touching grass 🤔 🌲 🌳

Refrigerator321
