Italian Game.. how would you proceed?

I played the computer recently and was doing my usual Italian game. I got a line that I rarely encounter and ultimately lost.

Okay, but here's the thing. I looked up this line on the chess.com explorer and White's results for the main move is pretty terrible (14% !?) after Black's 6th move.

Is there a better way to play this? 

Maybe 6. c3?

It may just have read the outdated analysis at Goeller's site, and this is not the only source of information that says 5.Ng5 is basically rubbish.

Recently a few correspondence players tried to revive it with the aid of their silicon assistants, but eventually gave up after scoring zero points out of four games...
