There is this opening called Sicilian defense: King David's opening and here it is:

What I don't understand is why would anyone want to play this?? Could someone please tell me?

Out of interest, I played this against a bot and I just lost really quickly because of the vulnerable king.

This is really only a Blitz opening, rather than a sound opening.

White gave up the initiative by moving the king, so instead of a Sicilian, black is now playing an English opening.

White is hoping black doesn't understand what just happened here or doesn't know how to play an English opening.

Wait, but what initiative?

Chess is a turn based game, white goes first, black goes second, etc.

Black often has to deal with going second as part of their plan.

When I say white gives up the initiative, I mean that by white making a useless move, it makes it like black went first instead of white.
