Unless White's very helpful it's tough to get the KID with 1. e4. It's an easier option to 1. d4.
1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 looks to go for the Alekhine Defense which can continue something like 2...Nd5 3. d4 d6 3. Nf3 Bg4.

Thank you, that makes sense. I suspect that since I go for KI so much, white or black (because that's when i'm most sucessful), opponents start to try and disrupt it by taking the centre with e4 than e5. Then i've lost control of the centre and waste moves trying to keep the knight out of danger and worry about pawns deep in my territory. Time to expand my opening repetoire I guess.
^I don't know about that, in the sense that the mainline KIDs produce highly blocked structures, whereas it's less likely for Alekhine mainlines to lead to such positions. In the Mar Del Plata KID, it also devolves very quickly into a race position where black aims to push all his kingside pawns and mate white, while white aims to push all his queenside pawns and either win material or queen a pawn. That sort of strategic imbalance isn't so common in the Alekhine.
When playing black and trying to set up kings indian, opening goes 1. e4 nf3 2. e5.....
What is black's best move here? Beginning player so my apologies if this is elementary or has been asked and answered ad nauseam.
