How would you rate this opening for beginners? I’ve heard that it’s quite complex. Would you recommend queens gambit or London’s system instead ?

London

Kings Indian defence is a black opening(Against D4). Queens gambit and London systems are openings for white. So it depends what you are looking for.

Actually, no opening is a Black or White Opening.  Both sides determine the Opening.

The Kings Indian Defense can be avoided by White - 1.e4

The London System can be avoided by Black - 1.d4 e5

The Queen's Gambit (Declined, Accepted, etc) can be avoided by not playing 1...d5.  1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 w/o ...d5 in the upcoming moves id NOT a Queen's Gambit.

When White plays 1.e4, I will play 1...e6, and then if he plays 2.d4, I will respond 2...d5 and we will be in a French Defense, but I have no way of dictating that any game I play as Black will be a French because it is NOT a "Black" opening.  It is an opening determined by both players.  If White plays e4 and d4 and Black plays e6 and d5, in any order, even declining the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit via 1.d4 d5 2.e4 e6, it is a French Defense.

So this whole concept of White Opening and Black Opening is hogwash!

I like what ThrillerFan said. “No opening is black or white...”

It is one of the two ways I tend to go for if playing black. Just be sure to have a weapon for kings pawn openings as well! The kings Indian defence can really be played as a setup which I find quite beginner friendly.

King's Indian is very difficult to play for beginners. While it may not have as much theory as the Sicilian, the positions are very non-intuitive and unnatural for most players.
