Kings Side question when given the center

My question is as follows:  Should I advance the pawn to D5?  I have seen this before and it seems to be the best move according to the chess engine I am using.  However, I have heard arguments against it including that it blocks my C4 bishop's attack on the F7 pawn and that I should be developing my Queen's side pieces.  Any thoughts?

with the position of the black knight i would take the pawn because chances are he will end up taking with his pawn exposing him for a queen for queen exchange... with that being said he can either take his queen with his king or knight... if he chooses the king he cant castle anymore leaving his king in weak position. however if he takes with the knight he leaves his pawn exposed and therefore opens up his king to attack with your bishop... while personally i prefer moving forward and creating a jam in the middle both options have their advantages and disadvantages
