Gin or vodka? Pro and con please! grin.png

If U really expect some serious replies, maybe U need to precise how and why this dilemma has arisen.

queen's gambit

I prefer stonewall against computer.  I dont know any theory except purely basic stuff.  I'd love to know when to play one or the other depening on my opponents play.  I also play Colle from time to time (Colle proper with 3.e3) and know when to deviate from it and play more like a Queens gambit setup.  e.g. when black plays ..Bf5 and ...Bg4 lines.

London System is a much better opening, often turning into an improved Stonewall with the Bishop outside of the pawn chain

RoobieRoo

Actually as someone already mentioned the London can transpose into Stonewall if white playes Nf3, Ne5 and f4 with the bishop outside the pawn chain. Although I suspect that many London players play a move like h3 to preserve the dark squared bishop. This move is no good in the stonewall where you require the square h3 for a rook lift via f3.  I get what you are saying though, Colle proper and Stonewall are more closley related.  I never played Torre so I cannot comment.

If you must play the Stonewall, best result you must  be totally drunk so when you lose you won't care. Please don't drink vodka its only for sophisticated, just drink cheap malt beer. wink.png

London can't transpose to Stonewall. There are cases where white plays f4 but that doesn't transpose to Stonewall although the pawn structure is identical. It is more common for white to play f4 in Torre attack, where the bishop is already at g5.

Now we are simply splitting hairs.

Zubrowka opening! grin.png

Taking (almost) any 2 openings X and Y, U can find their common successor making a certain quantity of legal moves. In this sense, (almost) any openings transpose to each other. grin.png
