Longest Opening before First Capture

The first capture in The King's Indian Defence, Classical Variation, Main Line - does not take place until  17.cxd6 cxd6. Please post openings that go about this long or even longer before the first capture is made. Thank you. This is brand new territory for me, and I find it fascinating. Smile

I found this opening in Modern Chess Openings, 15th Edition by Nick de Firmian.

Wow! In column two the variation goes on for 18 moves with NO capture. Surprised When does the first capture take place in this variation? Those who play this opening, I guess, are in no hurry to finish the game. Laughing

At first glance, with only looking at the pawns, I would think it was just two inexperienced little kids playing chess - not knowing the importance of developing pieces. A bunch of timid, fearful pawn pushers! Laughing

18 moves in the KID without a single pawn capture!

There are several lines in the closed English that hit mid-teens or early 20s before the first exchange. If you like closed positions and long-term plans it's a great opening for you :)

The longest I've personally played went something like 22 moves, although it hardly counts because white clearly had no clue what the hell he was doing (makes me wonder why he'd opt for the closed english in the first place, but whatever).   I've actually got the game here and can post it later if you want :).

ManyBuffalo

Many lines of the Ruy routinely go beyond 20 moves before a capture.

Yeah, I love the Ruy precisely because the pieces can all stay on the board.

Conquistador

I have had a few 30+ move openings where no capture occurred.

If you look here, there was a game that went for 94 moves:

The game is Rogoff-Williams and is playable on the viewer at the right.

Yes. Please post your game. I've never played the English. Smile
