Looking for a defense against C4

Hi, all

I am just wondering what response to C4 I should look at. I am a e4 player and against d4 I play the Nimo/queens Indian.

1.c4 e5 would be fine were it not for the "Kramnik recipe" of 1. Nf3 and 2. c4.

An answer to the English could be the Symmetrical Variation: 1. c4 c5.

A repertoire incorporating the Hedgehog and 1. c4 c5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Nf3 Nc6 4. d4 cxd4 5. Nxd4 e6 would have the bonus of giving rise to similar structures as arise in the Nimzo and Queen's Indian.

Of course, move orders are vital in the English because it is a highly transpositional opening, so be sure to look at those carefully.

Last night in an OTB game I played 1...Nf6 aginst C4 but things didn't turn out good at all after. 1.c4, Nf6 2.Nc3, e6 3.e4, Nc6 4.d4, Bb4 5.Bg5, e5........and I was not comfortable for the rest of the game.

Hi all. I have started using a system involving ...c5, g6, Bg7, Nc6, and usually e6, Nge7. I will not commit the d-pawn right away. I think this system is quite flexible and quite solid.
