because thats a completely different variation than i am looking at :) I like seeing 3.e5.  the question is what do you play on move 8 of this line?

Larrow

I'd say that next from there, I'd plaaaaay.... g3, probably, followed by developing the queenside and then O-O-O.  I don't know what the correct moves are, but those are the ones I'd play.

1 vote for g3 thanks Firefalcon. :)

WanderingPuppet

ne2 defends d4 if bg7 and if rxg2 ng3 traps the rook, although black has the move bh3 so may be able to hold onto it for a while.

1 vote for ne2, thanks for the explaination Petrosianic, good point, very helpful

Larrow

any other ideas?

Weird, after 7.Qe5 ...Rg7, analysis says its dead even (0.00). Qb5+ is a huge blunder. Qe4 maybe?

about the above Adams v Carlsen, 16. ... Ne5xf3+ is and improvement, again

17. ...Ne5xf3+ equalizes, 19. ... Re8xe5 is an improvement vs Bxe5 which Carlsen played.  24. ...Ng7f5 is slightly better than 24. ...Nh5.  29. ...Ng7-f5 is better than 29. ...b5.  36. Ng7-h5 pulls way better numbers than Qf7 (the difference is about the value a Queen) so the game could have gone very differently in several places, so I wouldnt discount the opening altogether from a single game. Thanks for posting it though, much appreciated!
