Mokele Mbembe

As a collector of Kaissiber magazines I have been introduced to some interesting, offbeat and somewhat forgotten lines from the past. I have already tried a good number of these lines (though to be fair only in 10 minute tournament games), and experienced some interesting positions and results.
The diagram shows what Stefan Bücker calls the "Mokele Mbembe", an unusual line of Alekhine's Defence. I've played this three times so far (vs. avg 1900 elo), scoring +1 =1 -1.

I welcome all opinions, questions and comments, and I would particularly like to hear from others who like to experiment in the opening. Smile

As far as I know, this is the only opening name with an African connection. The Mokele Mbembe is a mythical African river monster/snake.

Just for interest sake.

Eric Schiller also covered this in his Unorthodox Openings book, I think.

Probably you already know that, but on chesscafè you can find a pair of interesting articles written by Bueker himself on this subject.

As far as i'm concerned i have played the regular alekhine a lot, but i never dared to play this. It seems to me that in some lines yes, black is possibly holding everything togheter with best play, but W has all the chances.
