yeah as a surprise that line should be very good, problem is people arnt going to go into it. and instead of taking they play Nc6 and have a few tricks.. still better for white, better to transpose as black
Morphy Gambit
Yeah, the final position is better than the typical Smith-Morra, because of the pawn on e5. On the other hand, the chances of black actually playing this way are roughly 3720 to 1. So studying this is a waste of time, because it'll never happen in a real game. If you want to play a gambit like this against the Sicilian, learn the Smith-Morra.
I think that this will likely transpose into either Smith Morra or the open Sicilian. (Not many Black players will play e5.)
You are absolutely right. When I play the Smith-Morra, they put their pawn on e6 so as to blunt my bishop's scope on f7, but when their pawn is already on e5, they've got a weakened position.
In fact, someone once played e5 in the Smith-Morra and I crushed them.
