Most dreaded/favorite opening to face?

1... e5 is the reason I play d4 instead of e4

I play d4 and I am pretty comfortable with anything and everything black throws at me.(I don't allow a nimzo because the nimzo is annoying.  I play d4 Nf6 c4 e6 Nf3)

trysts

I love playing against the Sicilian, but I will not play it on the black side. It seems to call for an understanding that I don't have.

Niven42

I've been using the Dirty Dragon against e4 and loving it.  Laughing

Hypocrism

My favourite open is the modern Caro-Kann, with white 0-0-0 and black 0-0 in capabalanca variation, or any of the advance variation lines with ...c5 or ...Bf5 depending on my mood.

nimzo5

Whenever there is an opening I have trouble with, I try playing it myself.

most hated - 1. e4 hate the petroff.. 1. d4 hate the dutch stonewall. As black  I dislike the system openings like the London, the colle, etc.

rednblack

With the black pieces I love to see 1. e4, and I hate to see 1.f4  For some reason Bird's opening gives me fits.

kevinjin

I simply hate playing against the Sicilian with White (though I play e4 c5 c3 Alapin to avoid complications). When I play d4 I hate seeing KID and Dutch. As black I hate seeing the exchange French (I play French defense) and anybody who plays KIA. I love seeing e4 e5 as white and I love seeing QGA, with black I love it when my opponent doesn't know how to play against the French. So generally I hate anything that has to do with the Kingside bishop fianchettoing (probably not a word).

mirage

My favorite to beat up on as white is the Scandinavian.  The one I dread facing the most is the English with me on black.

rooperi

As Black, I like playing against the two Knights when White plays 4 Ng5, against the KG, and I like playing the Budapest against d4.

I hate the grob, I always get thrashed.

With White, I like the vienna, and hate 1 e4 d5.

onetwentysix

as white i like playing the KIA, h3!, or d5, and as black i like playing caro-kann, scandinavian, and nimzovitsch for e4, slav defense for d4, and kings indian defense for d4 and c4.

as white I hate the french, alkehine, modern, and owens

asn black i hate the bird, and the sodium attack

Krames

I love to see c5. I love a good closed Sicilian!

I don't like to see e6.

WhereDoesTheHorseGo

I play 1.d4 and sometimes 1.c4. With 1.d4 I don't like to see 1...f5. They play the Dutch more than I do, so I feel like I'm at a disadvantage and am in their "waters". Plus, it takes nerves of steel to avoid going from the attack to defending because there's just so much going on on your Kingside. That's an advantage I think people don't realize/too readily discount w/ the Dutch. When I play 1.c4, I loathe 1...c5 the most.

Sadistically effective!

What do you hate to see come at you?

An incredibly late reply, but I hate to see the Modern or Pirc, for some reason. I know little more than the basics and find it to be a kind of position I'm just not used to! I'm sure the sting will come out over time...

Insane_Chess

As White, I like playing the classic Queen Pawn Opening. As Black, I prefer a Caro-Kan, Nimo-Indian/Queen's Indian Defense, or a Two Knight's Defense.

I hate seeing a Sicilian or a Grunfeld.

FessMate

Love e4 against c5 or e5

Hate e4 e5 Nf3 Nf6

Palumbo

I play d4, Bf4 and can usually start my opening developing 3 to 1, making my way to securely defending my king in the corner.

I hate anything e4, its pathetic chess in my opinion. It makes for a sloppy game where white is overtly aggressive (challenging nonetheless).

Defensive games make for better play in my opinion.

As White, I now always open with 1. d4 and prefer to follow with c4 and Nc3.  I enjoy facing the Nimzo (with 4. Qc2) and QGD, and stick to the Modern Exchange 8. Rb1 against the Grunfeld (after a dabble with the Russian system) and the Averbakh against the King's Indian.  Against the Slav complex, I probably have most trouble against the Semi-Slav variants, particularly the Meran and the Moscow.  My record in the Botvinnik Variation is better than in those two.

As Black, I always reply to e4 with the Sicilian, and focus around the Dragon & Accelerated Dragon in the Open Sicilian, and have various setups I use against the Closed, Grand Prix Attack, and Alapin.  Against d4, it's invariably Nf6 and d5 depending on what mood I'm in.  I like both the Nimzo and Semi-Slav as Black.  I don't like the Colle, but don't mind playing against the London.  I rarely meet the Tromp nowadays.

Against c4, I prefer the Reversed Sicilian setups, including the Reversed Dragon and Reversed Rossolimo.  I have dabbled with the Symmetrical English, but not done anywhere near enough reading or research to consider playing it on a regular basis.

I thought I was reading the preface to a book on Opennings!

I hate facing the Dutch. It's a horrible thing

 And it's Dutch!

With White, I hate facing 1. c4 f5. Playing Black, I get ticked off by anti-Sicilians.
