I'm not much familiar with ideas of playing against french. I generally go for KIA or exd5 and castling long. I'm looking for interesting way of tackling french. Please share your opening so i can add that in my opening repertoire 🤪

Unless you want to dive into something more complicated, I recommend the exchange. Poucin’s link is as good a place as any to start. The variation is safer for white than most, and largely underrated. Also, you’ll irritate a lot of French players and take away their fun. Sometimes that’s  worth a small psychological edge.

I play the French all the time.

Actually i don't wanna switch to d4 cz even when we play d4 we have to prepare against defences like KID, Grun, slav and many more 🤣🤣. With e4 when i dont know how to tackle I calmly switch to KIA :laugh :laugh.

CrockPotLion

Go for a flank opening. Many players don't have a clue.

I would suggest studying the Advance Variation.  It is far stronger than the hot garbage that White gets for playing the Exchange (basically, White gets NOTHING!), and is yet FAR LESS COMPLICATED than 3.Nc3.

The advance is the best answer, balancing workload with legitimacy.

And I speak as someone that plays the Advance French BOTH AS BLACK AND WHITE!  (I also play 3.Nc3 as White, but usually more in Correspondence while 3.e5 is what I mostly play online or over the board.)

Well, if ya learn one system u can tackle all of these openings without learning much theory. For example, u can play the catalan and other kingside fianchetto variations against anything. U can also use the London system, the torre attack or the colle.

If u rlly wanna stick with e4 I would suggest just learn a sideline like the two knights or something like that. They might not be the best way to counter the French, but at least u won't have to delve into complications.

Tarrasch Defense is pretty good.

Yes, very good point. The equivalent at the moment in the 1. d4 openings is the London system but that is NOT interesting. The KIA is interesting! Mind you, you could play a similar system after 1. d4, you know.

Wrong! The London system is misunderstood. It has a lot of exciting potential but unfortunately no one bothers to discover them.

Not the xchange variation at all if you wanna tackle, the exchange variation is one of the most stupid decisions that white can make against the french, because white is already giving up his advantage, making the position equal, I recommend the Tarrasch variation, or you could learn the Wing Gambit

There's a reason for that!

Its bcoz ppl don't want to change the way they look at the opening.

If he watched GInger GM's series he will play c5 and get an advantage in this Qe2 line

Try the French Wing Gambit 4...b4!!! lol I had many good games with it.

Recommendable, but easily refuted if opponent knows what he is doing

chamo2074

It's really weird tbh... Qe2 is really odd and I don't think any GM would play it... How many times has it been played between GMs... 2500+?
