It's not the kan sicilian unless the specific line e4 c5 nf3 e6 d4 cxd4 nxd4 a6 occurs. After 2.bc4 it's just the bowdler attack. Nonetheless, against such an early bc4 black ought play for a quick d5 if possible, so e4 c5 bc4 e6 nf3 just play d5
Need advice on Bowdler attack when playing Kan

you'll play e6 AND a6, e6 to blunt the bishop and a6 to prepare b5. the best move after e6 is to play qe2 to prevent d5 immediately

In the Bowdler Attack position after Qe2 that's shown, obviously black can play a6, threatening b5. The computer always prefers ...d5 for black, which is the (bad) reason for Qe2 but Kan players play b5. It's a bad sequence by white and I think black has fully equalised. White can play a4 and is just making non-developing moves. Easy game for black. With white's B on that strong diagonal I wouldn't play Bb7 unless the e6 square is reinforced because white can sacrifice.
Yeah white just doesnt have an advantage in that position. i was giving moves for black, but d5 eventually is a very nice pawn break for black.

To counter it I would prefer you to start a pawn storm in queen side by b5.
This is one of the main variation of the opening you play.

I agree with the many that b5 is a great move and naturally counter play on the queenside because of the bishops poor position. The Bowdler is one of blacks weakest reply so I would expect black to have the favourable winning chances.

What about 5. ...Ne7? Be7 seems passive.
Nope Ne7 isn't a good move because I would blunt your bishop on G7 by just playing e5.
Hi,
I play the Sicilian Kan and 90% of the time I get the Bowdler attack. Its not so hard to manage but I am trying to improve. Can someone comment on what the best move for black is after White plays Nf3 or Nc3(move 3). Question is:
Can black safely continue with the Kan mainline which is a6 or should I be playing Nc6? to have better center control(e5).
Thanx in advance
