new age of openings

So guys chess has been played for a thousand years or so with a healthy evolution.. But as a bright beginner who has studied chess now for sometime and have started to tackle opening theory I often have to wonder what will the next big opening be? I mean The Ruy Lopez was once a mystery to chess.. The stonewall defense, the queens gambit, all had an origin. Now you can say well it's all based on theoretical principles and chess is a game of understanding patterns, but it is still a game. So my big question for anyone to answer is, where does chess go from here? Could someone dominate Carlsen with an H4 opening someday? What would it take to turn chess on its head.. What would the process be? Maybe we've found the perfect combo of openings that lead to the perfect middle and end games.. But I'm starting to get bored of learning the same opening lines and expecting them to happen in my games. I wanna branch out and start making things on my own but I don't know where to go.

As mediocre player as I am I'd tend to guess that we're well beyond the stage when something terribly new (and sensible) can be discovered within moves 1-5 (possibly more). Rather, I think, the novelties will appear in the following moves. So, in brief, I would not expect the new Ruy Lopez or the new Queen's Gambit but rather some new variations within (old) Ruy Lopez and (old) Queen's Gambit.
