I'm lousy, playing around with this. Seems like black is in better shape

If this happens, their is this line:

In this position, white is completely winning.

Seems nice!  Obviously, if they don't take the pawn, you look kind of odd, and the BSG already has a very suspect reputation, but your move seems to give White about as much advantage if they take the pawn, and you have the advantage of being more comfortable in these lines than they do, since any BSG player should know what to do if refuted.  happy.png I don't play the Italian, so this won't apply to me, but nice find overall.  happy.png

Thank you for the in depth feedback! Since you don't play the Italian, you'll probably never run into this, but if somehow you do, please give the flintlock trap a try!

oh that's pretty cool

My problem with the Blackburne Shilling Gambit is that after I exchange knights, since taking the pawn is not good, I am supposedly better like +1.6 or something, but I always fail to use my development lead and inaccurately stumble into a drawish position, which makes me sad since I wasn't able to punish a bad opening lol.

What should I do if they don't take the pawn?

Nxd4 exd4 followed by castles and f4 is easy win

Yes.

Bishop pair? I’d bet fifty dollars it wouldn’t matter.

No, it is slightly better for black with best play although tricky

I guess your right. I didn't see the fork on c2. But, in the long run, I think white will be able to win that knight back.

@horselover123’s analysis based her =/+ analysis on the fact that black has the bishop pair despite being down material. I say the bishop pair is quite useless.

Either way the position is still full of tactics that if white knows how to navigate, it will be hard for black to defend.

I’m putting my cards on white. His e pawn is easily solidified by the move f3

So with all factors considered, would you ever use this trap in a game?

sndeww

No. I like my Nxe4 line enough. And also I no longe replay the Italian.

I see. But are you particularly opposed to it? Would you recommend it to a lower rated player?

sndeww

Recommend? Sure.

I see. Thankyou for all the feedback.

This is my variation, white only has +1 at the end but it’s still a good way to simplify. It might be rare to encounter all the moves, but it’s a good queen trap to keep in mind. (Sorry it’s a gif I am typing on my iPad and the board editor is really hard to work with)
