What do you guys think new,has it already been created,what? I created this new version of the Roy Lopez because everyone knew the old version.It has won some lost some just like any other.

The computer gliched black to move not white.

Are you sure it's White to move?

Also "Roy Lopez"...  a priest born of an English father (possibly Roy is the father's name, too?) and a Spanish mother? Undecided

As I said could not figure out how to make it black to move so I posted another post saying black to move.

Okay, seriously now... yeah, both sides seem to have a playable position after some fairly respectable moves. White for choice.

White gains center with d4

that's not Roy Lopez -- this is Roy Lopez:

and you've got to admit he's kind of hunky in a 'omg-button-your-shirt-eeewww-a-medallion-and-omg-your-hair-is-freaking-me-out-eyes-glazed-by-veterinary-medecine-aaaargh-get-away-get-away-help-I think-he's-following me' way...

++++++++++++++++++++++

but spencer -- about your new ruy lopez -- it would help to post it with the move order you use...

The 3...d6 pawn push is the Steinitz defense -- 4.Nc3 is a sideline I don't know how it's evaluated -- the mainline is 4.d4

Looking into the Steinitz defense for this thread ( + I'm into all things Steinitz, these days) I came across this very wicked trap, the Tarrasch Trap of the Steinitz defense... man this is diabolical -- a very natural move by Black leads to losing the exchange many moves later.

no on both it goes (whites moves) e4 Nf3 Nc3 Bb5.check out that variation develops a knight first so next move start pawn structure!

I'm sure that's not a new line as it is very natural, but it's playable. Also please note, that is the OLD Steinitz. There is also a modern Steinitz that goes like this =)
