Does anyone play this against the kings gambit declined? It has been working okay for me in blitz, but I wonder if it is to suspicious for over the board...

Yes

Me as well when I use it. But I have to confess is not often these days as I like the Adelaide Counter Gambit more

The short answer is yes. A longer answer however is a bit more complex. If you don't already have it I would recommend "Die Nordwalder Variante" by Stefan Bucker. My impression is if your opponent plays 1.e4 e5 2.f4 Qf6 3.Nf3 Qxf4 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.Bc4 then Blacks chances are pretty reasonable although he will have to weather quite the storm to show as such.
If the Queen's Knight comes first, my impression is Black chances are less promising 3.Nc3 Qxf4 4.d4 Qh4 5.g3 Qd8 6.dxe5

A team-mate of mine played the Nordwalder Variante occasionally. Don't do that!

I used to play it as well, following Stefan Bücker's book. I did okay with it.

It is fine because NO ONE will know the correct line against it. But white can get an extremely dangerous attack and probably won game with this sacrifice:

6....Bb4?! is not forced and your line can be avoided with Bucker's 6...f6

In which white has full development and a strong center AND a massive iniatiave, all for a pawn. Engine evaluates 6...f6 at about +3 for white, which is basically lost.

I always went for Bücker's secondary line: 4...d6 5 Bc4 f6, though the engine is now telling me that's pretty dodgy as well.

From my experience I can tell if a line rings hollow or not: Ask yourself, can I play the line against a well-prepared opponent a second time?

In this case: no guys, no oxen and wain ropes will ever bring me to play this line.

And your point is what?

That some sweeping generalization and an engine evaluation makes your original statement any less wrong than it was?.....I am not sure because at no point did I say 6...f6 was a winning move only that your Youtube sourced 6.....Bb4 was not forced.

Youtube sourced? Lmao I found that myself doing analysis. Sure Bb4 isn't forced, but it's not like any other move is better. It's a lost position for black.
