A novelty is an original move in the opening. It has to be a move that has never been played before.
Sometimes novelties can completely eradicate old mainlines, and sometimes the novelties can lead to diaster.
The symbol for theoritical novelties in chess literature is TN.
I'm not too bad with openings but am confused with what a novelty is.
