Nuts or Gods…playing too many games at once!

I am hesitant to accept a game from a player who has multiple games going on.  I think to myself…this person is a nut or a god.  Sometimes I feel overwhelmed when I approach fifteen games in play, and …hell, #3 of them are on vacation anyways…and then another few players never seem to move, and I sometimes think they forgot they signed up for correspondence chess (I digress).  But, the player who has #30 ---- #90 games in play at once with 40 moves pending---and their looking for more challenges---well that annoys me, but them I’m a rookie player so I got feeling for my comfort level.     The flip side is when I only undertake #10 games---then---I’m up late wishing somebody would make a move and play.  I can’t seem to find that right number---and I accept games throughout the night---to get a mix of players on both day & night.  So what works for you?

If I receive a challenge from someone who has 90 games pending, and it is his or her turn to move in 40 of them, I simply reject it with a big NO. That kind of stuff don't make any sense. To accept the challeng would be unfair for those 40 people waiting for that idiot to move. Sometimes I don't know if people who do that do it on purpose to annoy people or they are just plain stupid. I try to always keep 10 games or less at the time, it sucks that sometimes I have to wait for ever for the players to move, reason why I moved to the "1 day per move" deal instead of 3.

A player with more games is more likely to blunder as they aren't paying such specific attention to your individual game. Trust me. Also, they tend to play faster as they kinda have to.

I have had more than 50 games going at once and had no real problems but am more comfortable with 15 to 20 games. However, I am retired and my children are grown so I have more time for chess than most people do, on top of that my wife is also a chess fanatic so I dont get any troubles from her. Smile

50 is to much for me. Less than 10 is to little. 15-20 seem to be about right, and when I have time and feel like it I'll play a few live games.  I usually play live games at MSN Zone, but hopefully Erik and co will have sorted this sites live server out soon and we can play live games more readily here.

With me having 30 - 40 games going on at once helps me. i never remember the game so i have to re - analyze the threats and figure out new possibilities every time. It helps my tactics and board vision

I agree with kenytiger; a player who looks for challenger when he/she has to play in 40 games is not fair for the players waiting for the move to come. It's sure that a player with multiple games / a huge number of games has not so much  time to really think and blunders a lot. I think that if you look for a challenger of quality, this person has to be focused on his/her games and it's impossible to remember all the game if you have more than 10 together. The subjet of waiting the move of the opponent is interesting but ...... aren't we playing correspondence chess with people all around the world ??????????

When it's 8 am and you begin working, your opponent is maybe going to bed because it's 10 pm in his/her country.

Not so long ago, correspondence chess was played by mail and I've never heard of a postman who can travel the world as fast as internet (maybe Santa Claus ?)

Personnaly, I've decided to play maximum 30 games so I've at all hour of the day (or the night) a "challenger" who answer my moves.

This number may seems too much but, I find it god for me and...... is that not the most important ?

PS: sorry for my english if I've made mistakes. It dates from school (15 years ago)

Definitely NUTS!

I beat a master on here because he was playing 100+ games at once (the game is on my profile page).

I'd rather play five at once & give my all than fifty at once halfheartedly.

If you're looking for quick action, try joining a group like this one:

There are tournaments that go on about every two weeks or so, with 1 day time constrictions.

On top of that, I'm playing in the 6th Chess.com Tournament, so I always have plenty of games going on.
If you're not comfortable playing in tournaments (I'm paired with 1900+ players Frown) then just open 5 or 6 seeks with 1 day time constrictions and choose the rating level that you're comfortable with. That, plus the games you're currently playing should be a good amount to strain you mentally, but not enough to drive you nuts. Laughing

I have about 50 games going on at any time. The way I cope with the numbers is not to try to remember every game and all the plans I had going on, but rather to look at each board set-up and look for the best move. Once I find it, I play it and move on to the next one.

I'm trying to improve fast, so playing multiple games may help me with this. I've already scored some nice wins.
