For white i've been playing italian game trying to go fo the fried liver and for black i've mostly been playing sicilian kan. I'm getting a little bored of playing the same openings every time though so I was hoping for any recommendations!

Try max lange as white. Similar to Italian but really good. Black, I try and play french against e4 and Dutch against d4. Hope that helps.

For each of the openings discussed in the (3-part) video above be sure to pay attention to whether they are referring to White or Black’s perspective. Also, they frequently refer to some openings as "garbage" or "bad", etc., but these qualifiers are used in the context of how appropriate or advisable they are for beginners. For example, an opening they refer to as "garbage" (an unfortunate choice of terms) for a beginner may in fact be reasonable/playable for higher rated players (Intermediates, titled players, etc. (see their openings tier list for Intermediate players below).
