Opening repertoire

Trying to select an opening repertoire that avoids the most popular openings. I’m thinking in general it will provide a slight advantage against intermediate players to play lesser known openings and more positional games.

I’m thinking c4 for White and c6 as Black, but interested if anyone else has different opinions on this.

Quit thinking about tricking others. Worry about your own game. What are YOU good at understanding? If you try to play some dubious trick line, your odds of winning are slim to none. If they don't fall for your trap, their position is likely better than yours. And then also, do you actually UNDERSTAND it? NOT memorize - TRULY UNDERSTAND IT!

I have played the French as Black for 29 years. Am I afraid to face the French when I am White in fear of it being a main stream opening? Absolutely not! If you understand it, play it! But don't just play something because you think it's will trick your opponent. More often than not, you'll merely trick yourself!
