now you know how I felt TRYING to play the monte carlo french. french fries hate gambits

Actually the monte carlo just gives white the c4 square for his bishop. They will never in a million years accept it... Just like QGD players rejecting the QG.

gik-tally

I wish the GM that pushed me into it said THAT.

"You'll rip the center open with initiative and make pawn cowards play the open game they wet the bed having nightmares about"

My honey!

Igor, basically saying the same thing about hartlaub charlick was SOOOO correct in HIS pitch. It really does put a lot of pressure on white AND punish him for playing NATURAL looking moves.

SO FAR no one has found bizarre looking Bf4 yet and I'm loving tactical revenge against cowardly pawn pushers

I'm not a fan of playing against the London System when I'm black.

Can anyone recommend an opening for black that creates tactical chances vs the London? I don't care if it's slightly dubious. At my level it doesn't usually matter if I'm at a +0.5 or even +1.5 disadvantage as black.

Most of the YouTube stuff on the matter is about playing the best moves for incremental advantage. I wanna make the position tactical!

As white... idk... I hate to see the Philidor. Same reason as the London. It's solid, and I'm not good enough to make the position tactical.

Any advice/lines on how to make the position tactical for either opening would be welcome. More so the London. Against the Philidor I can push d4 and open things up to make them interesting.

This is far simpler, works 90% of time and puts you in a advantageous position

I really love games that grandmasters play for a draw! I despise openings that have a drawn line. I don't like buying a book that tells me how great of an opening it is and then says later in the book; "well this is a line that you cannot avoid and leads to a draw". However, I guess it is good to know but not right away. However, If your opponent doesn't know the known draw then I guess the book becomes viable again ;-D. In essence of all the openings I have studied it just makes you a better well rounded player. I feel reaching 1900 and staying there for a while gave me a taste of satisfaction and accomplishment. I have found playing around with my local club with random openings is quite enjoyable.

Thanks man! That's similar to the way I play but I don't capture with the queen. Looks like fun. I'll give it a shot.

The Dutch defense against the London has little theory about it that I have seen. I have Simon Williams DVD on the London System. I abandoned the London because there are lines where black plays e6, d5 followed by Bd6. It's a draw with best play, but I don't think it is that hard if you know how to defend as black. The real poison of the London System is that if you know the greek gift sacrifice then you can win a lot of experienced players who don't know that line. As a previous London System player I hated facing the Dutch. The Dutch plays for control over the e4 square which is the same pawn thrust that white wants to play. So white has to play for other lines to open the position and get an advantage.
