I think it's too slow imo and I don't see how playing this defence simply because it's safe and reliable is therefore a good reason to play it. Where's the tactics? You close everything up just for a safe position and in return get what, a draw at best? This is for lazy players who don't want to enjoy their chess but want to simplify it and stay at one level of playing their whole lives. Better to play real openings like French or Caro which at least offer some aggressive and strategic play from the get go. I can't see how playing this nonesense gets one anywhere with their chess development.
Philidor defence?

I think the Philidor is okay, but only if you go through the d6, Nf6, and e5 move order. White has ways to get an advantage in each of the main lines of the 1...e5, 2...d6 Philidor.
The Black Lion?

Thank you, so is better go to Philidor into another move order like:
and Bxf7+ can be probably avoid by h6, but why it usually not played by GM? What is bad for white on Bxf7+?
The group has great articles, especially "Philidor vs d4" idea got me.
btw: Is there any another trap except Legal's and the Bxf7+ problem?
The position in the diagram that went with this had a Q exchange and Black just took Kxd8. There is then the question in the box under the diagram asking "is this position good for Black?" Are you kidding? White just plays Nxe5 and Black can't recapture because of the threat of Nxf7+ forking K/R. This is disastrous...as is the Philidor's in general. There is nothing wrong with playing the Black side of the Lopez or Scotch. At least then you are in the game and fighting for the initiative instead of hiding behind a flimsy pawn wall with no development and poor space.
The only point is that the position in the diagram is just sooooo wrong
It's not because the Philidor is bad, it's because Black messed it up
In this move order, after 3.Nf3 black goes 3...Nxe4
It's a free central pawn... 3.Nf3 is a White blunder, and going 3...e5 is a blunder over the blunder
3...e5 is right against 3.Nc3, and in that the Queen exchange is big draw
It doesn't look like it, as Black cannot castle, and White seems to develop with tempo, but there is no concrete play for White
I replied in this post because I myself recently switched to Philidor with Pirc move order as I always struggle against 1.e4
The Endgame variation (the queen exchange one) is so easy to play, and I love when White go into it. They often end up over confident and lead me in a winning endgame
and in case of 4.Nf3, you can go Black Lion, Hanham, Antoshin, depending on your taste, and none of them is easy for White if you do your work.
One of the big plus for me : after 3...e5, it's more likely to be Black territory
Although I may admit Philidor is not the much sharper. I start ok with a draw, and end winning because of better knowledge of resulting positions
(I also lose a lot because I'm at a level in which I blunder a lot, but this has nothing to do with the opening)

It takes a special kind of chess psychology to play the philidor well. It seems to be something safe and boring but that's part of its poison. It's a sea urchin waiting for you to try too hard to bust it open. Agaisnt players who are tactical and impatient, its a troll opening almost.
But the philidor is no fun if white is a strong positional player. IF white takes his sweet time the first 20-25 moves are white getting cozy play putting his pieces exactly as he wants (and stopping most of blacks obvious counterplay). and black playing stall moves while having to be hyper-viligant of every potential breakthrough being slightly different each turn. It's really easy to get impatient as black in those circumstances.

AFIK the modern way to play the Philidor is not via 1.e4 1.e5, but via 1.e4 1.d6. I think it gives you a solid position for Black that you can play for a win, without learning a lot of theory. I wouldn't be able to compare it to other openings, as I don't play them.
You can also play 1.d6 as black against 1.d4 and get relatively similar positions, also known as the Old Indian.
I think it is only moving the king to g6 that is a mistake in the original post instead black can move to g
8 and if ne6 Qe8 Nxc7 then Qg6 gives sufficient g2 counterplay.
