Playing against the Queen's Indian as White

Sort:
BL4D3RUNN3R

Everything was mentioned before but at this forum trolling seems to be the most important. I played Ba6 myself in the QID, as White I start with a mix of Nf3, c4, g3 to force Black into a Bb7 QID, nevertheless with a pawn sac d4-d5.

Either way , those d5 sacs are best, against Bb7 as well as Ba6. Ask AlphaZero.

misayan07

Yeah, does Black have any other compensation except the pawn after the d5 sacrifice?

misayan07

Because white seems to have a very, very active game and good attack

misayan07

"The fashion is for White to sacrifice a pawn with 7. d5, gaining active play."

Does white get anything else for the pawn sac?

It makes me want to play the queen's indian again. It's just that sooner or later they might realise that 4. Ba6 is weak against g3.

4...Ba6 is the most frequent Black reply for a reason, but it does not surprise me that you have no idea what you're talking about- this is your norm, not an exception.

Pren, you're a strong player but you cannot think for yourself and you always take the line from authority no matter how out of date it is. You're a fool. You also enjoy attacking people and all in all, you're pathetic.

Pop goes the Ego. Again. We will take the advising of a 2300 IM... over a patzer at his local club, lol. happy.png

@Optimissed it is understandable since the KID is supposed to be popular at club level.

@misayan07 are you talking about this gambit?

Yes

misayan07

I think there is something similar to that in the 4... Ba6 line but we can discuss this as well.

Mar del Plata

It'd have to be "Mar de Plata" or "Mar de la Plata" as that name is gramatically incorrect.

Check this out! One of the finest games played in the 7.d5 gambit!

Well, it is not 7. d5 that win the game, it is due to Stockfish 8 fault that cause the game.

If you set up current Leela on dural RTX 2080 TI ( which is much stronger than Alpha Zero in 2017) vs latest Stockfish dev 11 on 32 cores on those time control, it will likely end up draw.

Note.. If 7. d5 is much promising than all other lines, everyone will play that line.

But what about the 62. something percent thing? Kasparov is great player, but as a Logicator he must bow to @Optimissed...

No, everyone of us here must bow to Kasparov. Logic is fine, but nobody can claim that Kasparov was wrong about his opening choices.

I suppose you think the same about Carlsen.

Isn't there some d5 gambit after 4... Ba6 too?

Did you see #329 ?

I know, I'm saying what about that line? What does it do?

A draw, of course, objectively speaking.

In practical play, it is quite complex.

Can we have details?

misayan07

Anything can be said now? Summarizing some of the main lines?

Slav2Luv

Draw.

misayan07

Then how come top players have consistently played this line and won? Or am I mistaken about that?

Slav2Luv

Drawish.

misayan07

I though it was considered one of the most aggressive QID lines. Or is that the other d5 line
