Playing Garry Kasparov. Have 24 hours to prepare. Need tips

Hello,

I will be playing chess at a private event with Garry Kasparov tomorrow evening in Vilnius, Lithuania. Format is simultaneous exhibition (simul) so probably ~10-20 amateur players vs. Kasparov.

Need tips on the approach to take...

Goal: remain in the game as long as possible

Initial thoughts:
1. Use an opening to stall and extend the game time (which one)?
2. Guide the game so that Kasparov first eliminates other players in the simul rather than focus on me

Award - Kasparov signed book or chess set for help with my mentorship (subject to me being able to obtain his signature, I am pretty certain it can be done).

Any input would be highly appreciated!

- Gedas

PS Play starts at 5:30pm (London time) Aug 31, 2022. My bullet score at chess.com varies from 1400 to 1750. I have played competitively last time when I was 12.

play solid and slowly and don't try to stall. just play a safe opening (french, caro etc) and don't fall for traps, you might even last for 20+ moves!

That’s awesome!

Go for broke!

I see you have played 31,000 bullet games.

Perhaps you will actually use some of the extra time you have to think about your moves.

It's well known that Garry is easily unsettled by flying dildos.

Probably the best approach is to play the opening you know best. There is no point in trying to surprise someone like Kasparov. You would only surprise yourself. happy

"Goal: remain in the game as long as possible" ++ Always double check your intended move is no blunder. It would be a pity to lose a piece early.

"1. Use an opening to stall and extend the game time (which one)?" ++ Play what you have experience with
"2. Guide the game so that Kasparov first eliminates other players in the simul rather than focus on me
++ He will eliminate weak players fast. He will focus on you if he notices you play strongly.

"My bullet score at chess.com varies from 1400 to 1750." ++ Simul is slower than bullet. Think carefully and double check your intended move is no blunder.

Dreams come true... even if the wait time is 30 years!

Thanks everyone for the tips! I am positive I will secure a game in a year, who is in to help prepare? Other tips from 2300+ guys where 1) use "hedgehog" opening 2) do not open up pawns 3) do not lock our self in terms of minimal piece development 4) wait for Kasparov to make risky first move
Comments?Ā Ā

In terms what Garry does - he first attempts to eliminate weakest players and then concentrates on stronger remaining ones, if he makes mistake or gets bogged down he gets visibly upset, right?

Dude is always upset.

Introduce yourself to him like "Hi, I am Gedas, and I have played 31,000 bullet games at chess dot com".

It is certain that after this he won't pay any serious attention to your moves.

Exactly, that what will catch Kasparov by surprise, that's where Chess dot com community comes in.

pfren, re bullet games - I finished my competitive career at age 12. That's when a 8 year old in my town of 9 thousand people beat me and went on to qualify for FIDE IM. Call the encounter a long lasting childhood trauma... May be playing Kasparov next year again will lead to recovery.

Ā Another way to put it, I started practicing and pioneered TikTik duration chess, or TikTok chess before TikTok was a thing. So.... a visionary! happy

PS possibly secured a 2350 rating guy to help me prepare for the next year. Playing again in 2023. Who wants to be "in" and part of the team. Lets temporarily call the team "TikTok Chess Guy vs. Kasparov" given pfren's comment earlier. A working title...

PS Magnus does not have such bad opinion about blitz or bullet by the way.

Current approach (to be confirmed) to meet the objectives stated:
1. Hedgehog opening
2. Reserved stance, no reaction to baiting, push to exchange material pieces step by step
3. Make it a pawn game

Guys what do you think?Ā

1. Hedgehog is not an opening, but a pawn structure

2. This doesn't make sense.

3. This makes even less sense
