Hey, what do you guys think about this 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 Nf6 4.d4 Nxe4 5.d5 Bc5!? piece sack line that was mentioned by Emms in "Play the Open Games With Black"?

White is better.  the attack against f2is well parried.

Wait...how do you "parry" the attack and take the free piece at the same time?

The vote chess game is over and the team Ponziani Power won months ago.

I am no longer part of Ponziani Power and do not have a record of that game but kant has this.

Aside from games we played, the results from the Bc5 line in practical chess tend to favor White.  In terms of correspondence chess, it seems to have been shown that white needs to fight for a draw against

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 d5 4. Qa4 f6

ponz111

Disagree with the last statement.  I think there is more than meets the eye.

Although Black did not play the best moves, this miniture shows the difficulty black would face over the board.

ponz111

Kant if you refer to the vote chess game it is irrevelant because of new theory.

TheOldReb

I think that sac line must be better for white though white does need to know some theory . In a corr game with strong engines allowed I dont see white ever losing that line ... white should win or draw imo .

ponz111

Reb on the surface and using chess sense the line should be better for White.  There is new theory which makes it quite hard for White to obtain better chances.

I understood this statement as a request to post the game.  If the line is irrelevent, you can mail my partial refund for your book to 1313 Mockingbird lane.

kantifields

I am sticking with my evaluation.  White has better practical chances over the board.  This and many other lines (many other lines) do not give white the complications needed for correspondence chss at high level (forget about it with that centaur chess, computers taking the fun out of it)

ponz111

kant you seem not to understand that chess opening theory evolves.  No chess opening book can evolve--it stays to what is going on when it is published along with some innovations.

It is ok to post the game but right now it is not so relevant.

kantifields

I just bought the book.  Can it stay relevent until I get to page 50!

ponz111

No opening book can be 100% perfect and know that there are no lines which are going to be changed or improved until page 50.

Sometimes new lines are invented out of the clear blue sky.  In that particular opening book there is a chapter busting  a line that had been played more than 100 years.  Even modern supergrandmasters had played the line but the book busts the line.

kantifields

Oh well. I have a wobbly coffee table.  Nothing will go to waste.

thank you.

Pre_VizsIa

If you're not coming back ponz I will leave the old group too.

ponz111

Timothy  While I left Ponziani Power I am not asking anyone to leave that group.  That is a vote chess group which has done well and there is a lot of information in their forums.

Pre_VizsIa

They won't do nearly as well without you (the resident Ponziani expert) though I am sure.

ponz111

One thing about Ponziani Power--they challenged some of the very strongest teams in vote chess and right now are playing two of the very strongest [though one is winning position for PP and one is rematch from game PP won recently]
