firebrand. when you have a suggestion. make it. otherwise, keep the engines churning.
Ponziani Opening
Ponz, you are confusing me again. You told Loek you had analysis that was complicated (30 moves leading to a draw), but he needed to message you privately. He asked you to post it and you said you are no longer able to analyze (sorry about that). Then ask for replies to your suggestion.
Firebrand says 8. Be3 "sucks". Although that may be true, I would appreciate it if he told us why his engine told him it is a bad move.

For LoekBergman
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5 Bc5 6. dxc6 Bxf2+7. Ke2 Bb6 8. Qd5 Nf2 9. Rg1 O-O 10. cxb7 Bxb7 11. Qxb7 Qf6 12. Qd5 c6 13. Qc4 d5 14. Qb3 e4!! is deadly
14. Qb3 e4!! 15. Nd4 c5
14. Qb3 e4!! 15. Ne1 Rfe8
14. Qb3 e4!! 15. Qxb6 axb6 16. Kxf2 Rfe8
If you don't like 14 ... e4!!
Black has half a dozen other good moves.
White is two pieces up but they all suck.

I posted some blitz games with the Fraser Defense so you can see what to expect in blitz games. I've been at this for 4 years. You Chess.com people in this thread are the first to take my analysis seriously and for that, I thank all of you.

if you join my Yahoo group you can see all my Ponziani Chess emails in messages.
You guys are doing a fantastic job of investigating. I am impressed.
I play the Ponziani for White just praying some players will follow suit - :).
Colorado Springs, CO held a Ponziani theme tournament last year.
My interest in the Fraser Defense really started with my discovery of the Full Metal Jacket Variation
1. d4 Nc6 2. d5 Ne5 3. e4 e6 4. f4 exd5 5. fxe5 Qh4+ 6. Kd2 Qh6+ 7. Kc3 Qc6+ 8.
Kd2 Qh6+ 9. Ke1 Qh4+
which I have been playing for 10 years.
I had Chessville.com articles about this which seem to have disappeared.
You can see the similarity in some lines of the Fraser Defense where Black has 3 pawns for a piece and a Full Metal Jacket ( all 8 pawns ).

@BrianWall: thank you for sharing. I am very interested looking at it, but it will take a lot of time. I haven't got that much time for all you gave before thursday evening. I will definitely come back to it.
Short reaction about the move e4. The first thing I can see is that e4 is a very good answer after Qb3 indeed. After 13. Qb3 e4 14 N.. is 14... Ng4 very strong. 15. Be3 is forced to prevent the black queen entering f2.
13. Qb3 e4 14 Nd4 Ng4 15. Be3 c5 16. Nc2 c4 17. Qxc4 Bxe3 18. Nxe3 Qf2+ is game over.
Therefor should white answer 17. Qxb6 axb6 18. Na3 d5 19. Nb5 in this variant. The position of black is better.
Conclusion: I don't like e4 for white, but I do like it for black. :-)

For LoekBergman
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5 Bc5 6. dxc6 Bxf2+7. Ke2 Bb6 8. Qd5 Nf2 9. Rg1 O-O 10. cxb7 Bxb7 11. Qxb7 Qf6 12. Qd5 c6 13. Qc4 d5 14. Qb3 e4!! is deadly
14. Qb3 e4!! 15. Nd4 Ng4 16. Be3 Nxe3 17. Kxe3 c5
is quite wretched for White.
I win almost every blitz game with the Fraser Defense, it will take the world a while to catch up to me.

The Fraser Defense and the Full Metal Jacket are hard to get in slow games so I played thousands of 1 minute, 3 minute and 5 minute just to get a little practice in with those openings.

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5 Bc56. dxc6 Bxf2+ 7. Ke2 Bb68. Qd5 Nf2 9. Rg1 O-O10. cxb7 Bxb7 11. Qxb7Qf6 12. Qd5 c6 13. Qc4d5 14. Qh4 Qg6 15. Nbd2Rae8 16. Ke1 Ng417. Nb3 Bf2+ 18. Qxf2Nxf2 19. Kxf2 Qf620. Ke1
In this line Black has a nice option of NOT winning the Queen to keep his attack going.
17. Nb3 f5 18. Qg5 Qf7
looks like more fun to me.

Hey how do I make those click and moves on this site? I can do them on others.

damn you doggy
Re-read my post, I am not blostering anything you prat. I am simply demonstrating just how banal it is to so flippantly dismiss a move, any move with a moronic sound-byte such as a 'garbage move'. If you want a slower game:Fixated on ratings? How about a 60 point gap between two 2300 ELO plus
I could go on...Morozevich used it to draw against Makarichev Moscow 1992...and on....Kevin Spraggett of Canada (ELO 2500 plus) has used it to win in 2002....and on.
Dude, If you want to dismiss moves on half arsed sound bytes that up to you but you are missing aircraft sized oppotunities as they pass you by.
