Brian to Kantifields- Thanks, that worked.
I posted David Taylor's 3rd Ponziai poem about me to thousands around the globe.
I have personally refuted the Ponziani 3 years ago with the Fraser defense.
Main line:
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 Nf6!! 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5 Bc5 6. dxc6 Bxf2+ 7. Ke2 Bb6
8. Qd5 Nf2 9. Rg1 O-O 10. cxb7 Bxb7 11. Qxb7 Qf6 12. Qa6 Rae8
plenty of analysis on BrianWallChess@Yahoogroups.com to prove my point.
Why didn't you tell Carlsen?! Lol
Brian to Crabiano -
actually I did message Magnus Carlsen, Hou Yifan and Peter Svidler on Facebook to try my line next time - no reaction, maybe not the real person or they just think I am another nutty fan.
Just so you don't think I hate the Ponziani
It's not the opening, but the Cult of Ponziani that I find objectionable. There are countless openings that do not confer any advantage, but the Cult of Ponziani argues that this opening is at least as good as the Spanish because it doesn't lose. And it's better than any other opening because there is less theory on it.
I too still play the Ponziani occasionally, but only as a surprise weapon. For Brian, playing a main line Queen's Gambit would be a surprise weapon!
Wow! I don't know of any Ponziani player who argues that the Ponziani is at least as good as the Spanish because it doesn't lose. Also, I do not know any Ponziani player who argues the Ponziani is better than any other opening or that the Ponziani is better than any other opening because there is less theory behind it.
For me, I have stated several openings which are better than the Ponziani.
I have stated several times that you are more likely to lose with the Ponziani as compared to the Spanish.
FirebrandX my statement was about the general chess player not the players at the very top 1% to 10%. Here are the stats from the 10 best opening for White.
Ponziani win 41% lose 29% draw 30%
Ruy Lopez Win 40% lose 27% draw 33%
This refers to all players not just the very best players
So, from the stats we can see that players today get slightly better results with the Ruy over the Ponziani.
Almost any stat regarding chess players in general will change if you change it to the stronger players
All I said was that for the average player - he/she will do slightly better with the Ruy Lopez as per current stats. Obviously the stats reflect the surprise value along with other factors.
I have a theory that the average game of chess is usually decided by the 15th move. And by that I mean is that one side or another has a winning position by the 15th move. Now, obviously this theory does not hold for supergrandmasters or even for current correspondence chess. It probably holds for Vote Chess, however.

OTB that theory probably holds. Unfortunately, OTB, the level of chess required to convert the advantage is beyond almost everyone. GM Lederman discusses his failure to convert against Kamsky. Furthermore, most untitled players won't even recognise the winning advantage you are talking about.
In the line 9. cxb7 Bxb7 10. Qxb7 Nxh1 there is also a move a friend
suggested and that is 11. a4 idea 0-0 12. a5
I cannot see right now so maybe this has also been investigated to some degree?
At first glance I would look into 11...a5 and 11...O-O with 11...O-O probably being the critical test planning 12.a5 Rb8. I suspect Black is fine here.
