Problem in Scandinavian Icelandic gambit

I have this problem with this pawn push when i play the scandinavian

You get an advanced french but your bishop is free.

At least that how I play it with the immediate 2...Bf5.  If your opponent isn't too good you can usually win the d4 pawn right out of the opening... when the knight comes to f3 play Bg4 and you have c5, Nc6, Qb6 and Ne7-f5 to pressure the d4 pawn.

If not (they trade or defend correctly) then white still has a tender spot on d4 and black has a comfortable position in any case.

If they refuse to put on a pawn on d4 you'll have space and easy development.

Maybe post a game where you had trouble?

It is a little surprising how many relatively good players  [expert level]

will play 2. e5?  It is a very weak move and already Black has an equal game.

By the way--this is not the Icelandic Gambit..

Ponz after he takes the pawn I will Nf6 and he will defend with the c4 move

while on the topic of the scandinavian. I had a look at 'play the scandinavian' and a few other sources and they were VERY critical of it.

Is it really such a suspect opening, youd think I was opening a book on the latvian the way it is portrayed.
Whats up with the theoretical satus of this opening nowadays?

This and 3. Nc3 are the weakest responses to the Scandinavian. A surprising number of players go for these. White throws away the first move advantage and plays the French defense down a tempi--more likely to lose than win for White.

@Fear_Itself - The classical Scandinavian is sound but passive. Black's winning options after 2... Qxd5 are limited compared to other responses to 1.e4, but it is still sound. Black has about the same chance of defending successfully as other answers to 1. e4 and with correct play you can get a draw. But it's just that... very drawish with good play.

The modern Scandinavian 2... Nf6 is more aggressive. It's in good shape. Grandmasters are increasingly dabbling in it. This appears to be sound.

After 2. exd5 Nf6, if:

-3. c4, then e6, 4. dxe6 Bxe6 - Icelandic gambit. Black appears to get sufficient counterplay and development to justify the pawn. A fast-paced aggressive game where White will be the one defending.

-3. d4, this is the best answer for White and this is what you'll mainly see. If you're feeling frisky, 3... c6 and play the Scandinavian Gambit (3...e6 would allow 4. Bb5 which reduces Black's compensation). More sound is 3... Nxd5 and take your chances.

-3. Nc3 ... trade knights with impunity. :)

-3. Bc3?... if they intend to trade the bishop then take the pawn and enjoy the free win because White's position is worse afterwards. If they're just developing the bishop then this is alright for him. White may try to castle queensided.

I play the Icelandic gambit - I just didn't know it was called that!

You get great compensation for the pawn and even the engines think it's sound.

Against 2.e5 I just play ..Bf5 and I now have a French with a good white-squared bishop.
