Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm still hesitant, I think I'll first try the Stonewall or the NID/QID tandem. I'm really not sure about the Slav, it seems to be quite theoretical.

Everything mentioned is quite theoretical -- almost all openings are, nowadays. The NID/QID tandem you mentioned is definitely not less theoretical.

The thing with the Slav is that most lines aren't sharp. You won't be lost just because you forgot the theory (this is contrary to the semi-Slav, don't confuse the two!).

Of course there are a few sharper lines, but then you have that in every opening too (e.g., the sharp advance lines in the Caro).

I know the NID/QID are quite theoretical, but when you can close the game it's easier to rely on basic principles, and I've seen plenty of Semi-Slav games leading to very open/tactical games. I would take a look at the Slav. Thanks.

If you like the Caro, then you'll love the Queen's Gambit Accepted. Don't let the name mislead you, rarely do you keep the extra pawn. Instead, you use the time white takes to recover the pawn to make a c5 or e5 thrust in the center, which is just like the Caro. The lines where you can give White an IQP should interest you a lot, since you already obviously like playing against the IQP if you like the Caro so much.

You get a solid position in which you can develop before equalising in the center, and I think that it will appeal to you more than the Slav, which is the only suggestion made that had anything to do with your preference.
