Queen's gambit accepted

I like to run the queen's gambit and i've read that white isn't really running a gambit. Aparantly white can easily get the pawn back. So....1d4/d5 2c4/dxc  should i push the e pawn to e3 or e4? If I dont push it to e4 then 3...Be6 , then i end up getting the b pawn pushed to gaurd his c4 pawn. What do I do?

Archerknight

I like Nf3 after them taking the pawn.

this is interesting...I didn't know this line. It looks like every move for blak was natural or forsed. But 2. Bg5 as much as it looks unplesent for white must be mistake and marked with  at least 2. Bg5?!

Archerknight

Bg5 is the trompovsky. There is nothing wrong with it.

1. d4 d5 2. Bg5 is not the Trompovsky. 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bg5 is the Trompovsky. It turns out that in chess it matters what your opponent plays. To my eye it looks like there is a big difference between moving the bishop to g5 when it attacks something and moving it there when black can go Qb6 threatening the b-pawn that you just undefended.

1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e3 Be6 is awkward for black because the bishop on e6 restricts natural development. Here is a game I played as white in this line.

Archerknight

e3 is bad because it blocks off the black bishop and the opponents probably wouldn't go Be6

there is nothing wrong with 3. e3 , but it is very wrong with ...3. Be6. Maybe some of us couldn't be able to take advantage of that Bishop move, but for very strong player that could be just bad as a blunder...

It may not be bad but I think Nf3 is better because it also lets the dark squared bishop out.

A quick glimpse at the games explorer shows 3 world champions (Kasparov, Anand, Karpov) have played 3. e3.

Of course a strong opponent is unlikely to respond 3. ... Be6, but the original poster asked what he should do if his opponent did make that move.

principles of opening forbide that move...It should be ilegal  Cool
