Every opening teaches you something, even the Fred Defense. It trains to boost resourcefulness.

In the QGDx I know of a model game trains for the concept of the minority attack. It happened between Loek van Wely and Nigel Short in 2010.Very instructive.

There are several key games in the QGD Exchange. Botvinnik played many model games as White, but the most important proponent of the White side was Garry Kasparov. His game against Ulf Anderssen in 1988 is still mentioned in opening manuals:

This basic plan is still playable, but Nigel Short has come up with a plan to equalize. It's still an open question whether it really does equalize, but it's certainly one of Black's key tries:

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.cxd5 exd5 5.Bg5 Bf5!? 6.e3 c6 7.Qf3 Bg6 8.Bxf6 Qxf6 9.Qxf6 exf6

Black has other plans available to him. The QGD Exchange doesn't lead to an automatic win, but it is still a dangerous weapon that is often underestimated.
