Realy a joke opening ?

I do not like to draw certain conclusions based on first impressions, so I remain open minded and curious as to how this defence would develop. With only two moves shown, I think the burden is on the person presenting the Barnes system to show us a longer portion of the game, illustrating what unexpected advantage there might be. Without more than what we have seen, there is just not enough evidence to make the question worth discussing.
If it is a good system which you can use, then why not beat of few members of this site. When you move the king, you will immediately have element of surprise on your side.

in my opinion , it is a stupid opening [no offence to the people who use it!]
Well as chode said u give up ur right to castle and endanger your king. I don't know why its called the 'Barnes defence' Because its not actully a defence! And i really think it is a joke opening for sure

Yes, these moves are "playable" for black because white has no real way to take advantage of it (I ran it through the Rybka program and it did not find any winning advantage for white).
But this is surely not the way I would want to start my game with the black pieces.

what will be your reaction if youre opponent will play this opening
Awful put him away!
This is an interesting opening! I believe one member of our site "MarcosRamos" uses this opening/defence quite frequently and winning some of the games against decently rated players. So, it would not be fair to outrightly reject this opening without studying it. I think the surprise element for those who have been playing conventional openings does the trick more than anything else. Also, I don't see any immediate disadvantage in using this either, if one has a plan and develops strategically.
Those who dismiss the idea of this opening/defence might want to give a shot with MarcosRamos

What's the point of posting games games like this where you played people much inferior and the outcome of the game is obviously not a result of the opening, when the point in question is the opening and not "are you able to win an inferior opponent with a stupid opening"?
Why don't you post us some games where you won with this opening against people your size? Playing this opening is just like playing with a small positional handicap.

you are right. this is a lame opening and not worth talking about in my humble opinion. but some people play it either because they want to prove that they are THAT MUCH BETTER than you, or because they want to catch you being overzealous.

Marcos, if you want to play unconventional openings, why not try some wild gambit? I've played two games using the muzio (I'm winning the second one :), and against a higher rated opponent than me) and one that is probably going to be a muzio next turn, and it's a lot of fun, and also at least as important, it's very educative and stimulates creativity, sharpness and tactical play. There's a few other like this (fried liver, for example).
