Maybe another "coincidence" is that I've recently came into a position with a possible queen sacrifice, but wasn't able to calculate well/deep enough to decide if would lead to a "good" position. After studying it more (later on), if in that position again, I may decide to try it next time.
My calculation/tactics need serious attention in order to pull it off.

Chess example: if Blackburne were motivated only by "common sense", he could never play the Jerome gambit, sacrificing the queen and both rooks in order to put one of most incredible mates in the chess history.
