Rethinking the opening: if chess is a forced draw (building a narrow, bulletproof repertoire)

Yeah d4 is hardstuck Plat II but he’s going to rank up to Diamond III at the end of the year meanwhile you’re talking a lot of game for someone who hasn’t even finished placement games but looks like a Bronze I player.

Oh, the other have cake and eat it too, I'm either some smurf or sandbagger dumpstering people weaker than me OR I am a 1400 rated player.

But calling me both is a little desperate / disingenuous, is it not?

But I kid, I shouldn't tease yall too much, especially at one user's pointed at expense.

Feels like I am dealing out too many low blows or kicking while they're down.

Oooh… that one cut deep huh. Had to reply scathingly twice because once wasn’t enough. And as for dealing out low blows, considering the fact that you probably come up to approximately the bottom of my pecs while wearing stilettos, anything you throw would be a low blow.

You didn't come off as scathing, Hurt, shook, but scathing is a bit much.

Okay. So we’re going to do a fun little exercise called “using our eyes”. Who responded twice to one comment? That’s right! You did. So either you can’t count to two (which we both know is ridiculous) or you’re being intentionally difficult and incorrect in an attempt to bait me. Your call.

As long as it's living rent free in your head you're welcome to call it either way. Pick the one that makes you feel better

Pattern recognition time! What two words follow this string “#5”?
That’s right! Try again. As I was already aware you were being intentionally difficult and willfully ignorant, I was prepared for it.

You need a comittee to get your collective stories straight.

I can either be better than magnus / an obvious engine level cheater or a bronze 1 player. but it's hard to call me both.

Also, for the record, Diamond / bronze are basically the same thing, before people who actually play the game.

That is to say, it's still in the range of "beginner"

I have NEVER called you a cheater. Try again.

You're just one voice of many haters, again, make a comittee.

and if that sounds too edgy you can call it a fan club.

Like a class action suit.

I’m not a hater either, try for a third time. I genuinely respect your education and have defended you behind your back. You play the game rather well and obviously have a decent intelligence. Your points are always misguided at best and I wasn’t joking about you coming across as an arrogant, ignorant, delusional narcissist but then again that’s the price you pay interacting with others online. I’m no better.

You can say that yet every thing I said was right on the money, in all of my posts.

Try again (#4 now). That’s not the case, as you’ve very clearly been wrong previously despite never admitting to it.

There are no examples of me being wrong.

There have been many squeaky attempts trying to assert that I was however, adorable as that may be.

#6. Sure dude.

Dumbledore tried to see the bright side in everyone. He also died, so yeah your logic makes more sense.

Yeah but he also acknowledged peoples’ faults and accounted for them. He knew Draco couldn’t kill him. He’d have known March was Minister Fudge reincarnated with the amount of ignorance coming out of her proverbial mouth

Oh yeah, I forgot about the mandatory diversity hiring, that probably helped a bit too. They said “educated, female, comes from money? Yeah hire her, no need for an interview”

It would probably have went that way if my reputation didn't precede me.

I have clout a really flattering resume and all sorts of shiny qualifications that would have slam dunked without the nepotism and progressivism.

I can respect that you have the self-awareness to realize that. I don’t doubt your qualifications either, you’re smart, educated, and very stubborn, there probably isn’t a whole lot you can’t do at least decently if you care enough to try.

Except debate correctly.

I seldom debate because I seldom encounter peers.

I feel this statement on a spiritual level, however, I always make sure to overestimate my opponents-to-be. I overestimated you, you underestimated me, and interestingly enough, now I’m the one with the support of the judges and the audience. Now I fully expect you to claim bias or to claim that you don’t care what anyone else thinks because that’s just your modus operandi, but you, I, and everyone else all know the truth.

Play well or that's gonna age like milk.

I fully expect you to win both games. I play daily for fun and to connect and learn with people, not as some sort of misguided measuring contest. I don’t care enough about the outcome of the games to do deep 2-week analysis every single move.

cutting down on opening theory is a plus. But I have experienced two drawbacks to a very limited repertoire. one is boredom from playing the same thing all the time. and the second is not learning new ideas in various positions.

I had several repertoires before finally settling on the narrow one, so I agree with you on that. Fischer said to begin by reading MCO cover to cover, which I did somewhat way back when.

The internet has created a groupthink which discourages the very new ideas people seek. People who challenge conventional wisdom get attacked. Just like at tournaments everyone connects to their devices now not each other.

Which forced draw is easiest to memorize? That’s easy. It gets played all the time at top level too, so there’s that benefit.

1 e4 e5 is not since 1 e4 opens the door to to many deviations, as does 2 Nf3. Opponents will be booked to the max in each line.

1 e3 reduces homework by about 90 percent while preserving at least a draw. I know this will catch on because those who adopt this approach are already winning, though on the forums people seem to be more interested in spirited debate about irrelevant things.

I wouldn't be surprised if 1.e3,... scored well for two reasons. 1) It is the St. George attack if I remember right. which means it has it's own ideas and theory. 2) e3 is a strong developing move in other systems.

The excuses are happening already? Even IM Furry didn't need to do that and closed the account quietly.

Not making excuses, just stating facts. I am well aware of my faults. My inability to keep track of the pieces in daily is one of them. My non-combative spirit is perhaps another depending on your perspective.
