How do forum members rate the Reti? What do you recommend as a good opening book?

The Reti is sound if you know what you are doing. The Reti can go into a KIA which I like.

I've been tricked a few times with transpositional things. When people who know 1.d4 very well add 1.c4 it can be difficult to get what you want out of the opening. (Of course, these players were just better than me anyway).

Objectively black should equalize "easily" but at lower levels this isn't a problem. Another advantage of the Reti is structure and general strategic ideas are more important than move order.

Maybe try The Dynamic Reti by GM Nigel Davies (2004)

or Starting Out: The Reti by Neil McDonald (2010).

The Reti offers transposition, for example QGD.
