The story so far, I play white:

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bb5 g6 4.Bxc6 bxc6? 5.O-O Bg7 6.c3 Nf6 7.Re1.... Now assuming my opponent castles (7...O-O) then I am not sure what to play, m'thinks 8.d4 because it looks better, as a defensive redoubt, keeps central pawn numbers even, but it undoubles my opponents pawns (8...cxd4 9. cxd4) and may be thought passive compared to 8.e5.

8.e5 leaves the doubled pawns,is well supported by Rook and Knight, obviouisly threatens the Knight on f6, is pushy, offensive, takes the initiative, and demands movement of the Knight. But it just looks too far forward given my Queen-side pieces are not developed.

So, I want to play 8.d4 and to be honest its simply because it looks better to me, visually, on the board!

Any comments, ideas, instruction or whatever gratefully received.

Regards.
