I have been studying this line and it looks quite interesting. Any feedback on it would be great (I dont know the name of the line). Thanks.

dxe5....Qxe5+  Be2.. intending Nf3 attacking the queen leaves white up 3 tempo in development and black moving his queen yet again +=

Bringing out your Queen early ensures a loss 9 out of 10 times. The Scandinavian is a viable book opening, and yes, you did retreat to the best square after 2...Qxd5 (to a5) but further planning any moves to include the queen can just cause you problems. (I assume you showed us 4...e5 because you intend on white making the capture, 5. d4xe5, followed by your check and just going from there?)

Black's objective in the opening is to equalize the game (you're at an instant disadvantage by not having first move) and a hanging queen can be constantly threatened, losing Black precious tempo (moves), AND without responding correctly to these threats your Queen could fall into a forced net, which would definitely be a shame.

If you seem to be absolutely stuck in your ways, go on with 1... d5, 2. e4xd4, 2...Qxd5, 3. Nc3, 3...Qa5, but I'd suggest to just continue on with developing your other pieces minor pieces (B's and N's) with your Q safely pocketed at a5. She'll come into play later when she's meant to be.

But if you're willing to fade away from the 2...Qxd5, but you're still keen to responding with 1...d5, consider looking up/researching the Icelandic Gambit, if you're into responding with 1...d5. Here's a basic run of it:

Let's see: you completely open the center, while allowing your opponent a large lead in development.
Seems pretty suicidal to me.

Not to be a total jerk and ignore the point of the thread all in one post, Devout_Monk, but Qa5 isn't as praiseworthy as it used to be.  Qd6 is getting a lot more attention lately (I won't get into a debate which is better, I prefer white in all variations).

Anyways, e5 has a few fundemental flaws.  One, you're falling way too far behind in development.  You're down 3 full tempi (at the very least) which, using the Russian rule, is worth a pawn.  With very accurate play from the white side, black is definitely worse and quite likely lost after e5.  With the center opening that quickly, white will undoubtedly be able to establish a bind along the e-file.

Conquistador

This is known as the Andersson Counterattack.

If I remember correctly, Mikhail Tal refuted this line.

I play the scandinavian Qa5. after 4. d4 the best move is nf6. The database agrees

Icelandic gambit is the way to go...

Qd6 has been receiving much more attention lately.  But Qa5 is the old traditional line.  Any line gives White a slight advantage but likely will give Black a position they know better

Chronotis

KillaBeez. Which line for white is slightly better for white after 3...Qd6, I am not sure white has proved any advantage here.

Thank you CPawn. :)

Savis,

I would highly discourage this line for several reasons

  1. Current theory seems to indicate that 3... Qd6 is more dynamic.  And your opponents may be less prepared for 3... Qd6.
  2. With best play you will end up with foru undeveloped pieces.

But to the point earlier... Tarrasch destroyed this idea back in Gothenburg 1920.
This is famous game where he showed the flaw in the e5 idea.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll give the icelandic gambit a try.
