I am having difficulty as I go back and forth in a bi-polar way from feeling like an attacker who loves to sacrifice, to being a cautious player wanting to play strategically and slowly suffocate and squeeze my opponent until I win from accumulating small advantages.
I end up studying a repetoire that is the Pirc, Bird's Opening, and the Nimzo-Indian, and then swinging back to the King's Gambit, Latvian Gambit, and the Modern Benoni.
It's really bugging me and I can't seem to settle into a good repertoire. Being divided in my thinking is making my opening study suffer. What would you suggest for openings that are in the middle? I'm thinking of keeping the M.Benoni against d4, but am not sure what to play versus e4 and as white. I think, at first, of the Sicilian vs. e4, but really don't like the huge amount of studying/theory that there is to study. As I'm writing this, I'm thinking I'll just play e4 as white, and the M.Benoni vs. d4. I'm just not sure how to defend against e4. Any suggestions based on what I've said? I have a great book on The French, so I'm leaning that way. All the advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!
