scolars mate infuriates me

having this online game going now with a man clearly three times as old as me but i suddnly realized at the  right time he was going for a scolars mate against me

now other than being  a sign of disrespect , even if i am i younger player , he clearly insults my inteligence and he oly noted wow after i told him i know what is going on .

now this is not my problem , my problem is  that this moves really gets cheap on people and acts as a great insult that spoils a good chess game and i do which it was banned but that is not what will work best so  i  need ideas to punish that behaviour , i ended up moving the  f7 pawn but i then wished for a stronger or less passive move , other than putting out my knight for tthe e pawn to push away or take.

It infuriates a lot of people who have to listen to people complain over the stupidest things.  If you don't like the rules of chess then simply take your ball and go home.

patzermike

Why complain if you opponent plays an inferior line? The reason players refrain from trying for a quick scholar's mate has nothing to with etiquette. It is simply an ineffective way to play the opening against anyone other than a beginner.

IIt has nothing to do with ettiquette.  Everyone starts out a beginner,

and if beginners moves "infuriate" you, then i would suggest finding another hobby.  Its a game, nothing more, and getting angry over it shows serious character flaws.  So yes it is your problem.

Sometimes the THREAT of Scholar's mate can be useful and even (somewhat) correct.

1. Nc3 d5 2. e4 Nf6 3. exd5 Nxd5 4. Bc4 Nxc3 and now 5. Qf3 seems like a perfectly reasonable alternative to the immediate recapture on c3.

Granted... Black had a better alternative as early as move 2.

Easy to parry, though

If that's addressed to me... yes, of course, but it allows White to avoid the doubled Pawns and to end up with two pieces developed against none.

Zigwurst

Take the easy win and move on.

And I guess that "scolars" mate infuriates anyone that is a "scolar."

blueemu

A scolar is a poorly-educated scholar.

Zigwurst

Sounds about right

Grow up you crybaby!

Enter Troll #1, and the train wreck begins...

So you're angry because you don't know how to properly defend against a Scholar's Mate attempt in the Sicilian...

The game is ongoing, so I will decline to comment further.

I really welcome such "impudence." Nakamura - Volokitin, Lausanne 2005 (1.e4 c5 2.Qh5) is one example of punishment in the opening.

At your level, you will see a lot of crude moves in the opening (including your own), so maybe it's best to keep a level head and attempt to develop a modicum of objectivity.

The train wreck already began as soon as the second post was made

A more popular opening:

Legend has it that Kasparov adopted the Scotch Game as White to induce rage in the face of Scholar's Mate attempts (5.Nxc6 Qf6), so that it would increase the power of his attacks. jk

I think black development is more than good enough as punishment

Black is at least equal, but it's close to equal as well. Nakamura - Sasikiran, Copenhagen 2005 shows how even a very strong player can end up worse (23.e5! +/-). With accuracy, Black has some opportunities to seize the initiative.

Fady1998

well for those who came to exchange words , first of all this place is not for you and i dont wont to curse though i am from a rough country , second of all i parreyed the mate but it made me furious cause the man thought i was stupid just cause i was younger  and a 100 rating points less

if you are to judge posts by their title then dont bother comming

trysts

Try changing your whole mood when people try scholar's mate on you. Look at it as more fun to play against instead of an insult;)
