If you alreasy possess only the RFID chips you should be able to insert them inside the chess pieces but if you want to extract the chips from another set and reinsert them in a new set it is not a good idea as the chips can get damaged in the process. Instead of Certabo you can use a better e-board such as Pro Chessnut which comes with upgraded standard size wooden chess pieces.
Using Chessbazaar Pieces with RFID Chips for Certabo E-Boards, any experience?

Hi,
Thank you very much for your response and the helpful information.
You're absolutely right about the metal weights potentially interfering with the RFID signal. Interestingly, I’ve already managed to modify some Chessbazaar pieces that were produced in India and weighted with lead – those worked quite well after retrofitting, and I’ve successfully used them with Millennium e-boards.
However, I’m aware that not all Chessbazaar pieces use the same type of metal, and some are indeed harder to work with due to different internal weights.
As for the Chessnut Pro, I appreciate the recommendation, I’ve heard good things about it and I'm using a Chessnut Evo with a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it’s not a good fit for me personally, as I’m not a fan of its color scheme.
Thanks again for your insight!
Best regards,
Harry
In fact, Chessbazaar weighted sets are not suitable for use with chips especially as they use cheap iron only. Chessbazaar never uses lead for weighting its products because lead is expensive and also lead can cause cancer. A couple of Indian chess manufacturers use lead. Also it is better to use higher quality chess sets for use with chips such as the ones made by Staunton Castle or Chess Empire. Chessbazaar’s quality is not good enough specially their big sale sets that are slightly imperfect (the reason why they are put on 50% off price). Alternatively, you can use a plastic set with your chips. The good thing about plastic is it never chips, cracks or gets damaged like wooden ones.
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to order a set of chess pieces from chessbazaar.com and would like to retrofit them with RFID chips for use with Certabo electronic chess boards.
Has anyone here tried this before? I’m wondering:
Does the internal weighting interfere with the RFID signal?
Are some Chessbazaar sets better suited for this modification than others?
Any tips for embedding the chips properly?
And lastly, has anyone asked Chessbazaar directly if they offer custom options for RFID compatibility or chip installation?
Any shared experience or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Harry
