wow thanks for the detailed explanation
Scotch game 5...bc
Thanks i'll look for Peter Wells stuff. But the game umm - white barely holds a draw there. Why Nb3 and a4? Nf3, Be3 + o-o-o seems way better and get on with the attack on the kingside. And if i'm missing something, that still really adds to my points that 5...bc unfortunately is really good for black;/
Hello! I have a book Barskii - Scotch game, 2010 and Эстрин-Малая Дебютная Энциклопедия, 1985(Estrin - Small Opening Enceclopedy, 1985), I've looked at some videos in you tube and Wikipedia. I'm looking at completing my Scotch game repertuare and i nowhere can find moves 5...bc in 4...Bc5 line(1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 ed 4.Nd4 Bc5 5.Nxc6). Why theory compilations dont mention this move, is it that bad?
My candidate moves 6.Bc4 - but then i'm afraid i might be hit with d7-d5 and if i play Nc3 then the knight will be hampered by doubled c6 pawn, so often people like to develop it to d2 with idea of later nf3, nb3 or nc5.
So if i dont play Nc3 and instead 6.Bd3 then its not easy to protect e4 pawn(and play f2-f4) from Nf6, 0-0 and Re8. I could also go o-o and Re1 myself but then its hard to play Kg1 and f2-f4 because of Qh4+Ng4 forking h2 and f2(because king not protecting f2 anymore.
I've seen also to just go h3+Kg1+f3, but then my light squares are very weakened around king and positionally game probably is lost. h3+Kg1+f4 same thing really, only my e4 pawn is very weak and i cant really go for an attack if he plays Qh4, so its really bad too. I guess i might sac the e4 pawn, but it gets really complicated and i have to do lot of scientific work on the variations and a lot of testing, but this kinda stuff should be in book and i cant find it.
Okey i could settle for 6.Nc3 but then i can forget about advantage. f2-f4 is still nightmarish difficult to play and Knight on c3 is really only useful for defending e4 and if i ever play e5(which looks like sacrifice, because i dont know how i can protect it without my knight on f3 and knight from c3 is miles away from f3) i can jump my knight into e4 which by itself is really good attacking square to launch attack on his king. But its all really shaky and probably bad.
But what about that 5...bc it looks like black gets really good position.
EDIT: At the end of 9.Bh4 0-0 line i forgot to annotate "this might be something for white, but i can see lot of play for black, if black can get in g4 with Qf6 and later Kh8 and Rg8 it might even be strong attack, and if white puts all pieces to kingside d6-d5! with following Rad8 or Rab8 and white knight on b1 is still out of play and black has good postion with only god knows what - iniciative, attack, space advantage, passed pawn - you name it, in such position anything can happen.
