Yea, you can't play an opening irrespective of opponent's moves on autopilot.
The exception is opening systems like the Colle, London, Stonewall Attack, KIA but all these are suboptimal and you learn better by not playing systemy openings....
And even with opening systems, you still have to look out for opponent's moves...
my opening will be as follows 1.e4 2.nf3 3.nc3 and bringing bishop irrespective of to my opponents moves,,,,,and problem is my d pawn is getting exchanged to opponents c pawn and e pawn to a fpawn,,,eventually i am losing center and opponent is crushing me by forwading d and e pawns on my knights,,,so plz suggest the opening in which pawn exchange can be prevented
