ofc you dont mind a draw you are so desperate for that +2 points. alot of the reason why strong players dont progress to master+ level is because they feel like they should only be going for a draw

i beat an NM a couple times because i fight for a win and put and keep as much pressure as i can

I don’t plan on getting to master level and have beaten an NM as well.

you are also more likely to win in an e4 game

I gave up e4 when I got serious about chess.

For many reasons and don’t regret looking back. I’m just not in it for cheap thrills and cheesy tactics.

When I play an opponent, I expect a fight in the middle game and end game.

AngryPuffer

e4 is not about tricks. its about challenging your oppoment and going for an attack.

d4 is the opposite

I think that’s more of an opinion than anything.

There are many attacking plans that stems from d4 positions or transpositions, but most beginners and intermediate players cannot identify the middle game plans and positional play.

Opening up with e4, I would welcome that from my opponent because I have a Sicilian repertoire prepared.

Other times, the e4 player will run into a French or Caro-Kann. Good luck with that.

Most people aren’t as in depth with their d4 preparation vs e4.

AngryPuffer

i would welcome d4 but everyone my level plays a system opening with it

I feel ya, I run into a lot of Alapins or delayed, but what can I do? Trade down to a draw or winning end game.

i honestly think positional players are agianst chess and should quit the game. learn the play chess the way it was intended

What if there aren't any tactics available? Are you just supposed to fall asleep?

thats why d4 players exist. they keep tactics to a minimum and hope you fall asleep at the board

Ouch. You know I play d4 so you know this isn’t true.

PedroG1464

don’t crap on d4 players, only London players

d4 players avoid e4 because e4 is more tactic filled and they dont want to learn how to crush somebody with tactics

d4 players avoid e4 because a) the Philidor/Old Steinitz/Small Center Pirc/Czech Pirc/Owen’s/Botvinnik-Carls/Scandi/Modern/Hedgehog players, b) nobody plays theory in anything even if they play normal openings, c) nobody’s aggressive as Black, no Dragon, Taimanov, Classical, Winawer, Alekhine’s, or anything else aggressive. Meanwhile in d4 you get: KID, NID, QID, BID, Benoni, Benko, Dutch, QGD, Slav, Semi-Slav, Tarrasch, QGA, Grunfeld, Budapest, and maybe the occasional Englund and Marshall but that’s freelo.

Why would I do that to my former coach?

As an example:

Why wouldn’t you want to take winning positions like this?

Ill take e4 all day and coin flip for the win.
